Fellowship demonstrates a personal and institutional commitment to professionalism in learning and teaching in higher education. Across four categories, Fellowship provides individuals with professional recognition of their practice, impact and leadership of teaching and learning.

Fellowships are awarded based on evidence of personal professional practice that meets the requirements of the Professional Standards Framework 2023 (PSF 2023), the teaching and learning standards framework for the higher education sector. The category of fellowship you apply for will depend on which of the four Descriptors of the PSF 2023 is most appropriate to your practice and professional experience.

Why consider Fellowship?

Fellowships are embedded in the UK and have been adopted by increasing numbers of higher education institutions globally, from the Americas to Australasia. Fellowship brings you a range of benefits:

  • Demonstrates commitment to teaching, learning and the student experience, in diverse academic or professional settings.
  • Entitles you to use the post-nominal letters (AFHEA, FHEA, SFHEA, PFHEA).
  • Provides a valuable measure of success and is increasingly recognised by international institutions.
  • Demonstrates to learners and other stakeholders the professionalism that colleagues and institutions bring to teaching and/or supporting learning.
  • Fellowship is increasingly used by employers across the higher education sector as a condition of recruitment, probation, progression and promotion.
