Supported by our Good Practice Grants 2020, this project from the University of Winchester looks at developing inclusive cultures for Muslim students in higher education. It offers guidance on holistic ways of fostering a sense of belonging for Muslim students which move beyond practical provision into embedding into institutional structures to transform culture.
Resources for this include a report, which pulls together the findings of two phases of research looking into Muslim student experience at UK universities: investigating a sense of belonging for Muslim students and exploring the validity of ‘satisfied settling’; a summary report of key findings and recommendations; and a podcast in which project lead Maisha Islam is joined by Dr Arif Mahmud and Zulaykha Malik to discuss the report, their experiences in higher education and recommendations for institutions on making HE a more inclusive space for Muslim staff and students.
