The third of nine projects from Advance HE’s 2023-24 round of Collaborative Development Fund grants, this report looks at the key role industry placements can have in preparing students for life after university.

Led by Northumbria University in collaboration with the University of Liverpool and the University of Manchester, the research examined the role of industry placements for UK Business students, within the context of widening participation, in becoming successful graduates.

Taking inspiration from the Advance HE Framework for Embedding Employability, the report looks closely at students ‘becoming’ graduates and the impact that industry placements can have as ‘identity-crafting’ experiences leading to greater confidence and sense-of-self when entering the workplace.
