Associate Fellowship (Descriptor 1) is awarded to recognise an individual’s effectiveness of practice in teaching and/or support of learning, as demonstrated through evidence of meeting the following three Descriptor 1 criteria statements:
- D1.1 use of appropriate Professional Values, including at least V1 and V3
- D1.2 application of appropriate Core Knowledge, including at least K1, K2 and K3
- D1.3 effective and inclusive practice in at least two of the five Areas of Activity
Is Associate Fellowship appropriate for you?
Individuals applying for Associate Fellowship may be fairly new to responsibilities in teaching and/or support for learning or may have a limited teaching portfolio. They may be new or experienced staff with specific responsibilities in supporting HE learning such as technicians, librarians, professional service staff, learning technologists, careers advisors, PhD students that teach, graduate teaching assistants, etc.
It is not role dependent; you will need to explore whether you have sufficient evidence of appropriate teaching and or/support for learning practice to make a successful application.
If you have not yet completed our free online Fellowship Category Tool, please do this first to ensure that Associate Fellowship is the correct category for you.
How will you apply?
There are two ways of applying for Associate Fellowship:
Completion of an accredited programme or scheme: Advance HE accredits institutional provision (e.g. programmes and continuing professional development schemes) against each of the four categories of fellowship.
The Individual Direct Route to Advance HE: Through submission of an evidenced-based account of practice supported by a referee, which is peer-reviewed. This will incur a fee, paid by yourself or your institution.
Please contact your institution to find out if an accredited route to Associate Fellowship is available to you and whether a fee will apply.
