We are pleased to announce a number of significant governance developments as we continue to evolve the leadership and advisory structures that will carry our work forward in line with our 2030 Strategy.

New Board appointments

We are delighted to welcome three outstanding new members to the Advance HE Board, each bringing a wealth of experience from across the higher education sector:

Professor Yusra Mouzughi, Provost at the University of Birmingham Dubai, expands the Board’s international representation, with a particular focus on the Gulf region.

Professor Sue Rigby, Vice-Chancellor of Edinburgh Napier University

Professor Eeva Leinonen, President of Maynooth University and newly appointed Chair of the Irish Strategic Advisory Board (ISAB).

These are three exceptional appointments and I am very pleased to welcome each of them to the Board. The experience they bring – spanning different national contexts, institutional missions and strategic challenges – is precisely the kind of insight that strengthens our governance and sharpens our thinking. I look forward to working with them as we continue to develop Advance HE’s offer for members across the UK and internationally.”

Advance HE Board Chair, Professor Mark E. Smith, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton

A new Leadership and Transformation Strategic Advisory Group

Advance HE has also launched a new Leadership and Transformation Strategic Advisory Group (LTSAG), co-chaired by Professor Susan Lea, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hull, and Steve Denton, Chief Operating Officer at Nottingham Trent University.

The LTSAG will advise on Advance HE’s role in supporting transformation and change across the sector, with a particular focus on developing the leadership capacity and capabilities needed to do this well.

I was delighted to join the Leadership and Transformation Strategic Advisory Group at its first meeting this month, focusing on the evolving leadership needs of the global HE sector. Discussion covered key capability gaps – from digital fluency and data literacy to leading complex change and strengthening cultural competence – alongside the need for tailored development pathways that recognise the diversity of institutional contexts. The group also provided valuable feedback on our current leadership offer. These insights will directly inform the evolution of our programmes as we continue to meet members’ needs and the challenges facing the sector.”

Alistair Jarvis CBE, Advance HE Chief Executive

Strategic Advisory Groups: Remit Review

We will be working with our three remaining thematic Strategic Advisory Groups during the March round of meetings to review their remits so that these are fully aligned with our 2030 Strategy and the needs of our members.

Expressions of Interest: Quality and Impact Committee

Advance HE is inviting expressions of interest for membership of its Quality and Impact Committee, a sub-committee of the Board. The Committee plays a vital role in strengthening the organisation’s impact evaluation, quality assurance and reputation across the global higher education sector.

Following recent revisions to the Committee’s purpose and remit, we are seeking to broaden its membership to ensure it reflects the skills, experience and diverse perspectives required to support its expanded responsibilities. If you are interested in contributing to this important work, we would be delighted to hear from you.
