Background and challenge
In late summer 2022, Advance HE partnered with the British Council to deliver a capacity building programme for five Jordanian universities, supported by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The goal: to embed a culture of teaching and learning excellence, strengthen faculty development, and align practices with international standards.
Challenge
Jordanian universities faced the need to:
- Develop strategies and systems for faculty development.
- Enhance teaching and learning quality through professionalisation.
- Build institutional links between Jordan and the UK.
- Ensure EDI and gender equality principles were integrated into leadership and policy.
Whether you’re building institutional capacity, embedding inclusive teaching practices or fostering international collaboration, our tailored programmes can help you achieve sustainable impact.
Our approach
Advance HE designed a programme structured around four key pillars:
Faculty Development Journey
Roadmapping strategies and creating unified approaches to meet quality assurance standards.
Capacity Building Workshops
Practical tools and methods for professionalising teaching and learning.
Community of Practice
Strengthening engagement between UK and Jordanian institutions.
EDI and Gender Toolkit Integration
Embedding equality principles and improving career progression for women.
The programme was delivered in three phases:
- Getting Started – Inclusive, value-based education practices.
- Leading Transformational Change – Evidence-based approaches to change agency aligned with strategic priorities.
- Showcase Event in Jordan – Bringing together participants, UK experts, and policy leaders to share outcomes and best practice.
This project has helped set the course for the participating universities and delegates in building approaches to transformational change in teaching and learning, and making great strides to building capacity in the sector.
