Walailak University aimed to build a strong, collaborative teaching culture and elevate faculty development to global standards. Their goals included:

Our approach
In partnership with WU, Advance HE brought its global expertise in faculty development to deliver the Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (CLTHE), aligned to the Professional Standards Framework (PSF). The programme was designed to:
- Develop pedagogical skills and reflective practice
- Encourage faculty to apply for Advance HE Fellowship
- Foster collaboration through action research projects
- Support both in-person and online delivery formats
There is now a culture of teaching at Walailak University. Before this work, staff did not talk about teaching, whereas now you can hear them discussing their teaching in everyday conversations. Student learning is at the heart of all our work.

Key outcomes and impact
- 90% of WU faculty now hold Advance HE Fellowships
- Includes 2 Associate Fellows, 667 Fellows, 83 Senior Fellows and 2 Principal Fellows
- Drop-out rate among first-year students reduced from ~30% to <2%
- Improved student engagement and learning outcomes
- A visible, vibrant culture of teaching now exists across the university
- Faculty regularly share best practices and pedagogical insights
- Strong support from senior leaders including the President and Vice President for Global Engagement
