Dr Bret Stephenson is a 2024 ACSES Equity Fellow and Principal Advisor, Data and Ethics at La Trobe University. Having held numerous university teaching, research, and leadership roles, his passions converge at the intersection of student equity and success, higher education policy, and data/AI governance within universities.
His recent research has focused on understanding the challenge of ‘ghost student failure’ and outlining an equity-focused program of ‘inclusive analytics’ for Australian universities. As a 2024 ACSES Fellow, he is presently completing a research project titled ‘Centring Equity in Data and AI Governance: Informing Policy to Empower Practice’. Bret’s contributions to higher education have been recognised through numerous awards including an Australian Commonwealth Government Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
