Patsy has extensive experience in the education sector, ranging from prisons, museums and archives to senior management and consultancy roles in higher education. Engagement in the arts has been a constant theme and she is currently Chair of Governors at Leeds Arts University, a trustee at the Royal School of Needlework and a trustee at Sunny Bank Mills Museum and Archive – a unique collection tracing the history of a former worsted mill in Farsley, Leeds.
Patsy graduated in English Language and Medieval Literature at the University of Leeds and subsequently qualified as a librarian and then a teacher, developing an interest in the early incarnations of computers and media and their application in higher education. She taught educational technology and librarianship at Sheffield City and Leeds Polytechnics before moving to Bretton Hall where she was responsible for learning and teaching and their underpinning resources. In 2000 she moved to York St John University to take a senior management role as Director of Learning and Teaching and was closely involved in the development of new spaces designed to support student learning. This led to the award of Professor of Learning Innovation. Her next move was as an independent consultant working with universities, the National Trust, the National Archives and the Heritage Lottery Fund. She was also an Accreditor for the HEA (precursor to Advance HE) and holds Principal Fellowship.
