Laura Robinson is the Project Lead for Supported Internships at Preston College, where she supports young people aged 18–24 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). She has recently completed a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education and Training, specialising in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Her teaching practice is grounded in adaptive pedagogy, inclusive curriculum design and preparing learners for adulthood and employment.
Laura’s research explores the persistent barriers that SEND learners face in accessing meaningful employment, including employer attitudes, limited awareness of supported internships and exclusionary recruitment practices. Her work highlights the critical role of Further Education providers in equipping learners with the skills, confidence and self-advocacy needed to succeed in the workplace.
Guided by person-centred planning, the SEND Code of Practice and the Education and Training Foundation’s Professional Standards, Laura is committed to improving employment outcomes and raising aspirations for young people with SEND. Her poster, Breaking Barriers, Building Careers, presented at the Festival of Scholarly Activity, reflects on her journey as a reflective practitioner and offers practical recommendations for inclusive recruitment, employer engagement and create more equitable pathways into employment.
