Professor Anuj Kapilashrami is an interdisciplinary social scientist trained in Public Health and Sociology and Professor & Director of the Centre for Global Health & Equity Research at Essex University. Her work advances intersectionality conceptually and empirically, alongside developing methodological and practical applications of intersectionality, with attention to populations experiencing multiple oppressions. She has applied intersectionality in a wide range of settings. These include tackling racism and developing inclusive internationalisation strategies in higher education (Advance HE); public policy and systems planning where she has developed intersectionality-informed guidance for engaging communities in decision-making/ priority setting.
She has designed and delivered intensive CPD training (Intersectionality 101) to incorporate intersectionality in EDI strategies for NHS trusts, development organisations and postgraduate students in the UK and internationally.
Kapilashrami serves on the Racial Equity Advisory Board for the Lancet and co-chairs the Gender Equity and Rights Advisory panel for the WHO, HRP/ SRH.
