Under her leadership she led transformation change by (1) extending the portfolio of courses on offer including graduate apprentices, (2) improving the student experience which resulted in the School consistently being ranked in the top 10 in the National Student Survey, (3) converting a financial deficit into a significant surplus. She led the School to successful Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation whereby RGU became only the second new University in the UK to be awarded this status. She also led the School to become the first School in the world to achieve Business Graduate Association accreditation in recognition for the School’s approach to responsible management education. The School also achieved the Small Business Charter in 2020 and has subsequently delivered several cohorts of the government funded Help to Grow programme. The School was shortlisted in 2019 for the Times Higher Education (THE) awards and in 2020 was named as THE Business School of the Year.
Her research interests have focussed on gender issues within the accounting profession, professional accounting education and audit teams and she has undertaken various funded research projects for bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) and the International Association for Accounting Education and Research (IAAER). The influence of her work within the professional accounting education sphere was recognised in the 2014 REF where her impact case study was recognised as world leading (4*).
Throughout her career she has been involved with many external Boards and Committees most notably with ICAS where she currently chairs the final admitting Integration Assessment Board and Qualification Board and sits on both Council and Oversight Board. She has also served as a member on the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB) and during this time was involved with many Taskforces including chairing the IES1 Implementation Taskforce. She has served a term as the VP-Education for the IAAER and served two terms of office as a Trustee of the ICAS Foundation which supports academically talented individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds through University.
She has undertaken several reviews of Business Schools in the context of Scottish institutional led subject reviews and global AACSB reviews where she has led mock reviews for initial accreditation and undertaken Continuous Improvement Reviews.
Professor Gammie was recognised for her transformation leadership in 2020 when she was named as Business and Public Sector Woman of the year in the Women in Accounting and Finance Awards. She further achieved Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2022 for the impact of her educational work in Higher Education and global professional accounting education.
