Iwi has delivered sustained educational excellence in higher education for over 15 years and has established track record for successfully leading innovative, impactful strategic projects that enhance student opportunity, experience, and outcomes. She is recognised nationally and internationally as an intentionally inclusive leader, whose praxis is rooted in Ubuntu (‘I am, because we are’).
As a professionally qualified accountant, who worked in higher education for a decade in financial services prior to transitioning to academia, she has expert knowledge of the challenges associated with strategic planning and decision-making during times of financial turbulence. She is now a senior academic leader who has led several programme teams through national and international programme reviews & validations. She has extensive reviewer and governance experience gained in her roles as an accreditations reviewer for Advance HE, external examiner for ACG (Greece) & external reviewer for the validation of programmes at Universities in Mauritius, Ireland and the UK.
She has held several executive, trustee, and governor positions in the private and voluntary sectors. Additionally, Iwi is an active researcher, undertaking participatory research that explores equity issues associated with student transition to the graduate labour market. Her research, in this area, aims to address challenges faced by marginalised and minoritised students seeking access to highly skilled work in an ever-changing business environment.
