Having started his career within the music and creative industries, including as a producer and performer with the band Sneaker Pimps, Professor Wilson moved into music education in 2010, after being recruited to design a Popular Music degree for the University of Gloucestershire. He joined Leeds Conservatoire in 2013 as Director of Curriculum, became Vice Principal in 2018, and has led the institution since 2020.
From guest lectures to governance roles, Professor Wilson represents Leeds Conservatoire regionally, nationally and internationally. Professor Wilson is also on the Board of Directors of Yorkshire Universities; also Conservatoires UK, Go Higher West Yorkshire, Luminate Education Group and Yorkshire Young Musicians. Anchored in the Leeds City Region, Leeds Conservatoire is part of the Luminate Education Group whose members deliver HE within FE.
