Professor Shaun Ewen is Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education) at Griffith University, a role he commenced in 2022. He is a recognised leader in Indigenous health, institutional transformation, and inclusive education strategy.
Before joining Griffith, Professor Ewen held senior roles at the University of Melbourne, including Pro Vice‑Chancellor (Place and Indigenous) and Foundation Director of the Melbourne Poche Centre for Indigenous Health. His work has shaped national approaches to Indigenous health workforce development, and he has led influential collaborations such as the LIME Network, connecting medical schools across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
He has also served internationally as Visiting Professor of Indigenous Health and Leadership at King’s College London. His academic background spans physiotherapy, international studies, and a Doctorate of Education, with research focused on culturally safe health professional education.
Professor Ewen holds several significant governance roles, including with the Queensland Museum Network, the Australian Medical Council (where he chairs the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Committee), the Menzies Australia Institute, and Advance HE’s Australasian Strategic Advisory Board. He is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion as foundational to excellence in higher education.
