About
I am Sehrish Tahir, currently I am a full-time mum of two boys, aged 2 and 4 and a Postgraduate Researcher at the University of Sheffield in the School of Education. My PhD focuses on Young Muslim Women of Colour and which ways they navigate and shape their intersectional identities through White educational spaces; Through Critical Race perspectives and alternative Global South approaches, I am utilising critical counter-narratives to look into how Internalised Racism and Spirituality function and make meaning in this process.
Through this, I am exploring how educational spaces operate as oppressive vs. liberating and how types of oppression can function within communities of Colour.
Born and raised in Germany to Pakistani parents, I moved to the UK in 2013 to settle down and study. Following this I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate studies in education studies at Sheffield Hallam University and, in 2019 I worked at the Sheffield Institute for Education for a year. There I was involved in several projects such as looking into the Degree Awarding Gap in the education department. During this time, I also completed my AFHEA status and facilitated cultural competence training and other social justice-related projects.
