Thailand’s higher education sector is undergoing a remarkable transformation, and the PSF is at the heart of it. With over 2,300 educators holding Fellowships across more than 30 higher education providers, the framework has firmly established itself as a benchmark for teaching quality across the country.

Institutions across Thailand have reported measurable improvements in student satisfaction, student engagement, student retention and world rankings as a direct result of PSF Fellowship projects. The evidence is clear: embedding the PSF within institutional culture drives genuine, lasting change.

PSF 2023 – Now in Thai

As part of our commitment to making world-class professional development accessible to educators globally, we published the PSF 2023 in the Thai language, a significant milestone in our work across Southeast Asia.

Offering the framework in Thai means educators can now engage with its principles, standards and descriptors in their own language, removing barriers to participation and opening new pathways for Fellowship applications and continuing professional development across Thailand’s higher education community.

Dr Issra Pramoolsook, a Senior Fellow at Suranaree University of Technology, was instrumental in bringing the Thai PSF to life. Watch the video below to hear him welcome this milestone and share what the PSF means for educators across Thailand.

Hear from a Thai Fellow

This landmark translation came to fruition thanks to the dedication of the late former Education Minister and first Thai Principal Fellow Professor Dr Wichit Srisa-an, who translated the original draft, alongside Dr Issra Pramoolsook, Senior Fellow at Suranaree University of Technology. The translation was verified by Professor Boontip Siritarungsri of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University and Professor Pansiri Phansuwan. Advance HE’s contribution was led by Louise Lumsden, Head of Fellowship and Teaching Excellence Awards, and Dallas Alexandrou, Senior Fellow and PSF Consultant.

The Evidence: PSF Transforming HE in Thailand

A recent study by researchers at Srinakharinwirot University, involving 356 faculty members and 400 students, presents compelling evidence of the PSF’s impact on teaching quality in Thailand.

Key findings include:

  • Faculty members who achieved PSF Fellowship demonstrated significantly more effective teaching practices compared to non-certified colleagues
  • Students taught by PSF-certified faculty reported substantially better learning experiences
  • The research highlights how the PSF can be adapted to local educational contexts while aligning faculty competencies with global standards

The study makes a clear case: investing in the PSF is a strategic investment in institutional quality. It creates a virtuous cycle of continuous improvement raising teaching standards, enhancing student outcomes and strengthening an institution’s position on the world stage.

We are delighted to launch the Thai PSF and extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to this important work.

This translation opens the door for Thai institutions and educators to engage more deeply with this internationally recognised framework. It provides a valuable resource for professional reflection and development, helping to strengthen teaching practice and enhance student learning experiences throughout Thailand’s higher education community. We are excited to support institutions and educators as they begin – or continue to evolve their practice through the PSF.
