“The translated framework will encourage more staff across Thailand to engage with it and recognise their teaching against global standards.”
The Professional Standards Framework (PSF) 2023 reaches a significant milestone with the launch of its Thai translation, expanding access to this globally recognised teaching standard throughout Thailand
This development addresses the increasing appetite for professional development and recognition in Teaching and Learning within Thai higher education, where there are already over 2,300 educators with fellowship across more than 30 HE providers.
The impact of the PSF in Thailand to date has been significant, with institutions reporting improvements in student satisfaction, student engagement, student retention and world rankings as a result of Fellowship projects. A recent study in one Thai institution found that staff recognised against the PSF with Fellowship achieved better student outcomes than those without.
Offering the translation of the PSF in Thai means educators can now engage with the framework in their own language, supporting broader participation in fellowship applications and continuing professional development. Given the framework’s importance in advancing institutional quality and teaching excellence, this accessibility opens new opportunities for professional growth across Thailand’s higher education sector.
Dr Issra Pramoolsook, a Senior Fellow at Suranaree University of Technology, welcomes the Thai PSF – watch the video below.
“It is wonderful to see the publication of the Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Thai. I have seen first-hand how the PSF and Advance HE Fellowship can support effective teaching, and the translated framework will encourage more staff across Thailand to engage with it and recognise their teaching against global standards.”
Emeritus Professor Pansiri Phansuwan, PFHEA, Chairman of The Commission on Higher Education Standards, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and former Vice President, Academic, Srinakharinwirot University
Ian Hall AFHEA, Head of Partnerships (International) at Advance HE said, “We are delighted to launch the Thai PSF and extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to this important work.
“This translation opens the door for Thai institutions and educators to engage more deeply with this internationally recognised framework. It provides a valuable resource for professional reflection and development, helping to strengthen teaching practice and enhance student learning experiences throughout Thailand’s higher education community. We are excited to support institutions and educators as they begin – or continue – to evolve their practice through the PSF.”
The work came to fruition thanks to the hard work of the late former Education Minister – and first Thai Principal Fellow, Professor Dr Wichit Srisa-an who translated the original draft; and with the hard work of Dr Issra Pramolsook, a Senior Fellow at Suranaree University of Technology.
The work was then verified by Professor Boontip Siritarungsri of Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University and Professor Pansiri Phansuwan.
Advance HE input was led by Louise Lumsden, Head of Fellowship and Teaching Excellence Awards, and Dallas Alexandrou, Senior Fellow and Advance HE PSF Consultant who project managed the review of the PSF in 2023.
